Following Liverpool's 3-2 loss to Arsenal over the weekend, Alexander-Arnold faced harsh criticism for his defense not for the first time this season.
The right-side back's of the field was where Arsenal's first goal of the game was scored, and it was also where they manufactured their second.
Many believed that his poor defensive stance was to fault for both, but he claims that concentrating on that facet of the game restricts his creativity and flexibility.
"I never like to play the position, I play the game," he told GQ. "[If] you play the position, it limits you. It's like playing with shackles on.
"I've always thought that with a sensible mind, play the game, get in positions that will hurt the opposition, and at the same time do the defensive work you need to do.
"It's more: Play the game how it needs to be played." the English football star said!
